Keyword Research

Before you begin to build your website, the first thing you need to understand is how the internet works, and what are the most important parts of the internet you need to clearly understand.

A number of years ago two young men decided to create a search engine that would be clean, simple and deliver the best results to a searcher when they were looking for something on the world wide web, also known now as the internet.

They recognized that the way people look for things is to ask. They could ask their parents, their relatives, their friends or their co-workers. In each case the question was phrased using “words”. For example, if they were looking for the best wallet, they might ask “Where is the best place for me to find a wallet?” Hopefully, the response they received would direct them to the best place for them to find a wallet.

The internet works exactly the same way. The word “wallet”, as it turns out, is what we call a “keyword”. If the person was looking for a “brown leather wallet with credit card holders”, the term “brown leather wallet with credit card holders” would be what we call a “long tail keyword phrase”.

By now you probably know that we are talking the founders of Google, and that Google is the search engine we are referring to. In the example above, the person looking for this wallet would enter the phrase “brown leather wallet with credit card holders” into the Google search box and be presented with a list of 10 suggestions on the first page, followed by a lot of other pages after the first page.

As an Affiliate Marketer you want to know what words your target customer is going to use so that you can build a website, and marketing plan, to present those customers with your products. So once you have identified the product(s) you want to sell, the first step is to do Keyword Research.
